The Guy Miles Story
Guy Miles was looking for a fresh start in Nevada for himself and his family. He had grown up in a tough California neighborhood full of gangs. Although he was a product of that environment as a youth, he had left the lifestyle and was looking forward to better things to come.
On a holiday visit back to California to pick up his son (who was staying with his grandmother), Guy was arrested for an armed robbery that happened in Orange County. Despite having many alibi witnesses, a jury convicted him and he later received a sentence of 75-years-to-life under California’s “Three Strikes Law”.
As it turned out, an eyewitness had misidentified Guy in what is known as a “6 pack photo lineup”. Although he had nothing to do with the robbery, investigators had pictures of him from his gang-activity days. As part of police procedure, his photo was placed in the lineup with others and the witness mistakenly identified him. Later, at trial, that same witness expressed doubts about their identification of Guy but the jury was not present to hear it.
It would be a long journey full of twists and turns but Guy Miles would eventually win back his freedom. This is his story…
