Angela's Story
On November 20th, 1999, Angela Garcia’s home caught on fire. Caught off guard and terrified, she crawled in the dark looking for her children but could not reach them. The blaze forced her to jump out of a second-floor window. Frantically, she rushed for help, but her children died before rescuers arrived. The State wrongfully accused and later convicted her of murdering her family.
After nearly 20 years in prison, the prosecution’s case fell apart due to faulty forensic evidence. In 2016, before a retrial could take place, a “dark plea” was offered to Angela. If accepted, she would go free. But there was a catch: she would have to admit to guilt and serve five more years in prison. What would you do? This is her story…
