Junk Science - Undoing The Damage
Not all forensic science is reliable. What was once considered solid evidence of guilt has, in many cases, later been shown to be inconclusive. In the criminal justice world, debunked forensics are often called “junk science.” But where does that leave us? Is there a program that reviews old convictions based on faulty forensics? Sadly, no. Except in extreme circumstances, convictions stemming from junk science are rarely reviewed en masse.
In this episode of For The Innocent, host Michael Semanchik is joined by Lindsay Herf, Executive Director of the Arizona Justice Project, for a discussion about junk science, its impact, and ideas for improving the criminal justice system to help prevent wrongful convictions.
